Avoid a Fashion Emergency - Determine Your Body Type

Have you ever purchased an outfit that you really like, but when you put it on at home for the first time you begin to wonder if you made a mistake? Do you think the item makes you look "fat" or tends to highlight "problem areas"? Does the way you look make you feel so uncomfortable that you scramble to select something else to wear? If so, you are having a fashion emergency!

Once you learn how to determine your body type, you will be able to identify the clothing styles that are most flattering to your figure, and which ones to avoid. There is a lot of information readily available online on this topic to guide you in selecting the best styles once you have determined your shape.

    Ideal Body Shape

An hourglass body type is considered the ideal body shape - it is perfectly proportioned, and the easiest to dress.  Here, the bust and hips are the same width, and the waist measures 9" - 13" smaller than the bust and hips.

When dressing any of the other body types, the goal is to select the proper styles of clothing to camouflage specific areas (sometimes referred to as "figure flaws"), giving the overall impression of an hourglass shape – basically, visually balancing the figure.

    How to Determine Body Type:

First, take and record measurements of the following:

    • around shoulders
    • around the largest area of the bust
    • around waist
    • around the largest area of hips

With these measurements, review the descriptions of the basic body shapes below to determine your body type.

There Are 5 Basic Body Shapes:

    • Hourglass: bust and hips are about the same width, with a defined waist
    • Round/Diamond/Apple: bust, waist and hips are close to the same width; usually smaller shoulders and no waist definition
    • Triangle/Pear: Hips are wider than shoulders and bust
    • Inverted Triangle/Athletic: Shoulders are wider than hips; may have full bust – the body area above the waist is larger than below
    • Rectangle/Square: bust, shoulders and hips are close to the same width with little waist definition

Now that you know your body type, it will be easier to select styles to flatter your particular shape. In general, the idea is to play up your assets and camouflage any "figure flaws".

Over time, it will become "second nature" to select flattering styles when clothes shopping. Thanks to this new awareness of your basic body shape, you will begin to dress with confidence, avoiding the dreaded "Fashion Emergency" for good!

5 Must-have Tips to Consider When Wearing Midi Dresses

Midi dresses are the perfect addition to any girl’s wardrobe. Midi skirts can give a stunning look to any woman. However, many ladies experience shorter and stout look with midi dresses. This is because wearing a midi skirt is a bit tricky. So, does this means you can’t get a midi look? Of course, not! Below are some must-have tips that will help you get the desired look with midi dress:

How to Wear a Midi Skirt without Looking Short

Tip #1: Select the Right Length

This is one of the most important factors to consider while choosing a midi dress. If you want a midi dress that flatters your look, then make sure you choose the right length dress. Petite woman or woman with short legs look great in midi dresses that go over the knee while taller women can wear longer midis. Choose the right length and rock your midi look.

    Tip #2: Wear Heeled Sandals

Make sure you obey this important rule while wearing midi skirts. As the midi dresses go below the knee, they can make you look short. And, if you are already petite, you might end up getting a stumpy look. Hence, we suggest that you should wear heeled sandals with your midis to elongate your legs and avoid the stumpy look.

    Tip #3: Choose Right Accessories

When it comes to wearing midi skirts and dresses, don’t overdo your accessories. If you have selected patterned midi, then go with simple fashion accessories. However, if you are wearing a plain dark color midi dress for a night party, then you can use some bright accessory that complements your dress.

    Tip #4: Choose Right Coat

You can wear a coat if you want to wear a midi dress during winters. Pick a coat which is as long as your midi skirt. It will help you look taller. Wearing longer coats with the midi dress can give you a perfect look in winters as well. Avoid wearing a short coat as it will make you look short.

Tip #5: Tuck a Top into a Midi Skirt

If you are wearing a midi skirt, then tuck in your shirt to get a more streamlined look. This will help you expose entire skirt from waistline to legs. You can also use short tops as shown in the above image.

12 Secrets From The Pros for Beautiful Hair

For most women, and some men, primping and preening their hair is a daily Olympic event that may or may not win them any medals for the way they look. In fact, from bed-head to hat-head, most of us tress-obsessed are prone to bad hair. Want healthier, shinier, sexier hair? Don't despair, instead, read on!

    Hair Cleansing:

With so many different shampoos, conditioners, and styling products available on the market today, do you know what the best options for you are? These tips should help.

    1. Go Au Natural

Most store bought shampoos contain astringent cleaners, which can be damaging to hair. However, using products made from natural ingredients are less likely to rob your locks of essential oils and nutrients.

    2. Get Familiar With Product Protocol

Make your product work for you. According to experts, the best benefits are achieved by emulsifying shampoo or conditioner in your hands, prior to applying. Massage into roots, crown, then lastly, down sides of shaft (hair shaft, that is).

    3. Less Is More

While washing hair daily may make you feel like it's squeaky clean, but in reality, daily cleaning can be damaging and drying. Instead, wash hair every other day or two to three times per week. On "off days", rinse with water and apply conditioner as needed, mainly at the ends.

    4. Go Deep

Heat and color treated tresses need to be deep conditioned at least once a week. If hair is extremely damaged, experts recommend a concentrated hair mask in place of daily conditioner (for use from midshaft down).

    Styling Suggestions:

Are you constantly in a fight against your hair when it comes to styling? Never fear, these tips will help you win the battle.

    5. Avoid Burnout

Many modern dryers are efficient at speeding up the drying process, but experts note that they were designed to be held high above the hair (preferable by a stylist) and to be circulated around a lot, so as to avoid overheating and damage. To avoid dryer burnout, experts recommend removing the nozzle and pointing your dryer downward. And, they suggest treating damp hair with a heat-protectant spray prior to drying.

    6. Go With The Flow (Of Your Hair)

Use fingers when styling your hair until it is about 80 percent dry, then pull out the brush. And, don't try to fight its natural tendencies.

    7. Let It Breath

While many de-frizz or anti-frizz silicone based products help keep strands smooth and sexy, experts suggest applying them AFTER heat styling (for best results). Otherwise, they note they can have a "shrink wrap" effect, depleting your mane of moisture.

    8. Brush Up On The Type Of Brush You're Using

According to experts, the best brushes are those with natural (boar) bristles, because they disperse your scalp's natural oils and keep them well greased.

    Feeding Your Follicles:

Great hair is more than just what products and styling tools you use! You need to nourish it from the inside-out.

    9. Nourish Your Roots With An Adequate Diet

The best follicle fuel is found in omega-3 fatty acids, according to the experts. So, dive into some cold-water fish such as salmon and tuna and don't forget the protein (found in nuts and cheese).

    Salon Suggestions:

Do you have colored hair or highlights? Consider these tips for best results.

    10. Time Your Touch-Ups

Frequent color touch-ups according to the experts, can be beneficial in not only covering up the damage time has done, but also in preventing chemical damage, especially since keeping up with color means only roots will need a quick fix and stylists won't have to leave color on that long.

    11. Protect Yourself (From Color-Fade)

Professionals suggest ensuring color lasts by refraining from shampooing for 72 hours, using only color-safe products. However, if you need a shower to style your hair only wet your hair and apply conditioner.

    12. Leave-In Treatment

A quick fix for frayed ends is simply applying a leave in treatment then giving them a blast of "fresh" air with a dryer.

Everything You Should Know About Magnesium, The Wonder Mineral!

About half the magnesium in our bodies can be found in our bones. When we are deficient, calcium is drawn from our bones and deposited into soft tissue, rather than in the bones. This is why when we are low in magnesium it is likely we will also be low in calcium as it impairs utilization of calcium for bone building. When we have sufficient magnesium our calcium levels will also elevate, even without taking supplements.

Magnesium is also important to help activate B and D vitamins and also to help the blood to clot and is required for the secretion of insulin.

Why Have We Become Magnesium Deficient?

The soil that was used to grow our foods a long time ago, before commercial farming, used to be rich in lots of minerals including magnesium and this would be our major source. The majority of our farming methods these days have left our soils deplete of all thing good for us, hence we find ourselves deficient in these important minerals.

There are many symptoms that can show us that our stores are low:

    • Muscle Tremors
    • Migraines
    • Stress
    • Anxiety
    • Difficulty going to sleep
    • Difficulty staying asleep
    • Lethargy
    • Muscle cramps
    • Tremors
    • Involuntary eye movements and vertigo
    • Nausea and vomiting

(These could also be signs for other ailments, if you are concerned or not too sure please see your medical practioner.)

Food Sources That Naturally Contain Magnesium

There are lots of food sources that naturally contain magnesium such as:

    • Almonds
    • Spinach
    • Cashews
    • Avocado
    • Raw Cacao - may contain one of the biggest amounts in the food chain

It is also important to note that if we don't have a healthy gut, no matter how healthy our diet is, we won't be able to absorb the nutrients from them.

    What is Transdermal Magnesium?

Transdermal magnesium is applied to the skin, rather than taken orally. The easiest way to increase magnesium levels is to apply a transdermal magnesium on to our skin. This is also beneficial for people who have low tolerance for oral magnesium that have intestinal complaints.

Transdermal magnesium comes in many forms:

    • Magnesium Oil
    • Magnesium Gel
    • Magnesium Lotion
    • Bath Flakes

These are super concentrated forms of Magnesium chloride, known for its superior solubility. By applying it straight on to the skin it passes directly into the tissues where it is quickly transported to cells throughout the body.

It is very easy to use in the comfort of our own home. We can either rub in the lotion, spray oil directly onto the skin, or take a relaxing bath infused with magnesium bath salts (my personal favorite).

    Magnesium Lotion, Gel, or Oil

Simply apply magnesium directly onto your skin, arms, legs, anywhere you feel you need it, or on the tops and bottoms of the feet I prefer do this as I am getting into bed so I don't slip until it absorbs. I have found doing this before bed really gives me a wonderful night's sleep.

    Magnesium Bath

If you would like to have a magnesium bath simply fill the bath with water, not too hot, and add 1 to 3 cups of magnesium bath salts. If you like to, you can also add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil, light a few candles, put on some soothing music, and relax.

Stay in the bath if you can for 20-30 minutes to let the mineral absorb into your skin. When you have finished, rinse yourself in cool water and then gently pat dry.

    Relaxing Foot Soak

After a hard day get a foot bowl with warm water and add some magnesium salts in there. It is a quick and effective way of letting our body absorb this special mineral.

If you get into the habit of applying magnesium everyday you can be sure that your magnesium levels will gradually rise. It can take time to see results as it depends on how deficient we are in the first place and if we are at all. It has been said that it can take up to 6 weeks to an entire year or more before you feel any difference. It will differ for everyone.

    Why Is Magnesium Important?

It has been said that it can help in an amazing amount of ways. These are only a few:

    • Cramps
    • Migraines
    • Stress and anxiety
    • Tinnitus
    • Epilepsy
    • Confusion, brain fog
    • Hypertension
    • Depression
    • Cluster Headaches
    • Asthma
    • Osteoporosis
    • Insomnia
    • Muscles tremors
    • Aches and pains

I hope this helps explain to you more about the wonder mineral, magnesium, and how important it is for our bodies to function at its optimum. I also hope it has given you confidence in now knowing how to use magnesium. It really is that easy.
